What is Essential Oil Therapy for Animals?

Essential Oil Therapy for Animals is the use of essential oils and aromatic waters to promote optimal health and aid recovery from disease.  The Therapy combines traditional knowledge with modern scientific thinking, offering a natural choice of relief for many common physical and behavioural problems in animals, such as allergies, arthritis, digestive disorders, laminitis, muscular strains, tendon and ligament sprains, respiratory infections, sarcoids, stress-related disorders, viruses and wounds.

How do Essential Oils work with animals?

First of all the essential oils are never massaged into the coat as this causes adverse reactions. Essential Oil Therapy is offered to each animal via inhaltion or for them to lick from your hand. When an essential oil is inhaled, the uptake and distribution of the chemical constituents are transmitted via chemical messengers directly into the brain and brain stem via complex neural and circulatory pathways.  Essential Oil molecules are absorbed into the blood stream through the mucous membranes. When essential oils are ingested they are absorbed through the gut wall into the blood stream.  Therefore, essential oils have a broad effect on the body, directly influencing the limbic system (the emotional command centre), balancing the autonomic nervous system and exerting specific physiological effects throughout the body.  Essential oils are never massaged into the coat of an animal.

WEEKEND SEMINAR & DISTILLATION IN THE FIELD with Joe Nasr DPhyt, DO, MNIMH

Date: Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July 2009

Aromatic waters, produced through a specific distillation process, offer the therapist a gentle and yet very effective therapeutic approach. These precious healing waters provide a safe medium through which essential oils can be taken internally to great clinical advantage. Furthermore, Aromatic Waters contain a wide spectrum of water soluable volaties, which are simply not present in essential oils. These complement and balance the activity of the pure essential oil to result in a more rounded action close to that of the whole plant and one that is in more harmony with the body's own internal fluid make-up.

This enjoyable weekend, set deep in beautiful West Wales will cover the following:

  • The distillation and chemistry of aromatic waters
  • Sampling the waters
  • Demonstration of the distillation process in the field (harvested by participants)
  • The procedure of making aromatic tinctures and creams from aromatic waters
  • Demonstration of cream making
  • Therapeutic applications of aromatic waters

Venue: Cilcennin Village Hall, Cilcennin, Ceredigion, Wales

Price: £100 per person for the 2-day workshop
